the OBX trip, in no particular order... Ocacroke Island

This year we stayed in a beach house in the town of Salvo, NC.

We love to visit Ocacroke Island at least once during any trip to the outer banks, which includes driving down to Hatteras (about an hour's drive from Salvo) to pick up the ferry.

The drive on board ferry ride is just under an hour long between Hatteras and Ocacroke.

We were blessed to see dolphins this year, and several years ago we got to see a sea turtle.

Ocacroke Island has a quaint picturesque village that surrounds a little bay on the west side of the island.  It was in this bay in November 1718, that destiny caught up with Blackbeard the pirate.

....more on Blackbeard here

Ocacroke is such a beautiful island--here are some pictures from the internet:

When we arrived it was lunch time, but since tee and I had been snacking in the car, we opted to walk through the village instead of eating lunch.

The first ducks that we saw on Ocacroke.

Soon we realized that the town motto could well be "A duck in every yard."

We walked by the beautiful Wahab house...later we met the owner, whose great great grandmother built the house in the 1800's.  It is a bed and breakfast, and the owner said, "I feel more like the caretaker than lord of the manor."

Naturally....

The Wahab Ducks.

There were also these darling kittens spotted across the lane, too.

More about other darling kittens in a coming post....

At the town park

we fed the

And enjoyed the beautiful day

After lunch we met up with everyone else

Does this look like a vacation to you? Haha or maybe a tour group...?

p.s. john actually wore a shirt most of the time...

Please use your imagination to add myself and a duck or two to this picture! and a shirt for john, size medium.

We enjoyed our invasion stroll through the town, and some fabulous ice cream, and all too soon it was time to return to Hatteras.

At the tiny Buxton airstrip we were lucky enough to enjoy some very impressive practice landings and take offs of a v22 osprey.  We had seen this behemoth flying along the coast and were able to swing in to see it just as it made its first landing.

Thanks be to God a million times over for a lovely day!

what wonderful pictures! I loves all the pictures, especially the group shot, with Charlotte in her big hat and the excited expression on her face! :)
Now I’m curious about the kittens!
