Our Lady of the Seas, Buxton, NC

One of the most charming chapels we have ever visited is the beautiful Our Lady of the Seas in Buxton on Hatteras. This lovely wooden chapel has large windows that command sweeping views of the sound as a beautiful backdrop to the sacrifice of the Mass.

The architecture in every detail is marine related, from the material on the pews to the carved seashell holy water fonts.  The altar is riding on a wave...the stain glass feature biblical scenes involving water....several of the following pictures have been gleaned from the internet.

The chapel is a popular spot for destination weddings.

We were blessed to be able to go to Mass there on Sunday and first Friday.  After Mass on Friday we explored a little outdoor stations of the cross walk that ends at the sound.
