Blessed feast of the Divine Mercy!

this week we got a lot of work done in the garden....

well, ken did the most of it....

But now the lattice is up around the base of the deck,

the kale, dahlias, peppers and golden beets are planted,

the cyprus is trimmed, as are a lot of dead branches in the cherry trees,

the lawn has been mowed,

the blackberry vines are cleaned up,

and the big gardening beds in the back are cleared and the soil has been turned over.

mimi has also been a very big help.

there is oregano, lemon balm, thyme at the base of the steps, on either side.

the 5 little peppers and how they grew (we hope!)
 with volunteer sunflowers from
 last winter's bird seed ,
and golden beets planted in between.

the mint, in it's joyful exuberance, on its way to taking over the garden.

videos from today's visit with the greats

What Not to Wear, Catholic edition

No self respecting sinner can possibly start the day
without being ready to make a good depression impression on everyone around them:

Ok, so first thing in the morning,  i am sure to put on the boots of pride:

i can even put them on while singing,

"These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do
one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you."

....i seldom forget the latest Envy sunglasses:

they make the grass on the other side of the fence even greener than it already is!

I never want to be without my very own

Vanity plates, either.

these mirrors keep me focused on me!

they attach very easily to the sunglasses, too!

often, it is the Impatience elbow pads

that really move my day along.

they look uncomfortable,
but once i put them on i don't even notice they are there any more!

i am always ready to resolve the day's confrontations with

a well fitting pair of Anger gloves.....

hopefully,

bigger and badder than everyone else's!

and for proper head gear,
no self respecting sinner can't go wrong with

The dishrag of despondency

Oddly enough, all of these accessories really don't do a good job of covering me up,
so i may just have to follow St. Peter's advice from today's first reading:

Clothe yourself in humility!

The Imperial Moth,

and the call to die to self.....

John found a cocoon at Crockett Park on Sunday.

He brought it home, and we all wondered if it was alive or not.

John smelled it and said, "It's alive, because if it was dead,
it wouldn't have that strong insecty smell."

I can attest, it does have an extremely strong insecty smell.

Then Jeanne felt a slight wiggle in her hand.

After checking possible candidates online,
John is fairly positive that the cocoon contains
a male Imperial Moth.

The range of the Imperial Moth.

In a few more weeks, perhaps...

he will make his entrance!

This beautiful, magnificent creature
was not always beautiful or magnificent.

The amazing metamorphosis began with a death of sorts.

good thing, right?

And as a Christian, I need to die to self,

denying selfishness,
pride,
envy
and anger.

so that,
through God's grace and mercy,
i can become a new creation in Christ.

hopefully, without giving off a strong insecty smell in the meantime!
