Tried and True recipe series: How to Preserve a Husband
Be careful in your selection,
Do not choose too young,
When selected, give your entire thoughts to preparation for domestic use.
Some wives insist upon keeping them in a pickle,
Others are constantly getting them into hot water,
This may make them sour, hard and sometimes bitter,
Even poor varieties maybe made sweet, tender and good by garnishing them with patience,
well sweetened with love, and seasoned with kisses,.
Wrap them in a mantle of charity .
Keep it warm with a steady fire of domestic devotion and serve with peaches and cream.
Thus prepared, they will keep for years.

Tried and True recipes: The world's best Banana Bread (no kidding)
This recipe came from an online search, and it is so easy and delicious, it really is the world's best. This recipe is taped inside our baking cabinet door for ninja power baking!
The BEST Banana Bread
Butter a non-stick bread pan, then flour well. (The flour is really important for the bread to “climb” against while baking. I had not done that before, and it makes a huge difference!) Ususally just use vegetable spray and skip the flour.
Combine and mix well the following dry ingredients in a bowl and set aside:
2 cups AP flour
¾ cup sugar
½ cup toasted coarsely chopped walnuts
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
In another medium bowl, coarsely smash 3 ripe bananas (use a large spoon or spatula and don’t puree – the banana needs to be chunky)
To the bananas, add and combine: (but try not to reduce the banana chunks)
2 large eggs, beaten
6 Tablespoons melted butter Canola oil is a great substitute!
1 teaspoon vanilla
¼ cup buttermilk or plain yogurt
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently FOLD until the flour is thoroughly moistened. Pour into the prepared bread pan and spread the mixture evenly across the top.
To which add cranberries or blueberries, sprinkle the top with sugar.
Bake in a preheated 350-degree (F) oven for 45-50 minutes.

Visiting Laura and Mikey
Peter and I are visiting Lu, Mikey and Charlotte. Everyone here has been sick, so we are trying to help out a little. We are planning to return by Wednesday, after all, I packed really light, and its either that or use up all of Laura's laundry detergent. :-) (Reference: Betty's blog).
But Laura said if Peter and I get sick we can extend our visit, as in Pride and Prejudice.
Unfortunately, I think the "novel" experience would soon change to something like The Visiting Zombie Grandmother..... Or worse yet, The Visiting Zombie Mother-in-law.......horror of horrors! so, no, hope that doesn't happen.

Appearance The color of this snake varies from yellowish-brown and reddish-brown to dark brown or gray. There is a weakly defined lighter stripe down the back with a row of dark spots on either side. The under surface is pale yellow, brownish, or pinkish with small black dots along the edges. The young are darker than the adults and the spotted pattern is almost invisible. Also, the young have a yellow collar across the back of the neck. The closely related Midland Brown Snake is very similar in appearance, but it has dark lines crossing the back and connecting the dark spots on either side. Also, specialists find differences in the number of scales along the under surfaces of these two snakes. In Ohio, the Northern Brown Snake interbreeds with the Midland Brown Snake producing an intergrade that often has the combined characteristics of both parents. | |
Range Overall RangeThe Northern Brown Snake ranges from southern Quebec and New England southward to North Carolina, and westward to Ohio and eastern Kentucky. Its distribution overlaps that of the Midland Brown Snake along most of the joint length of their ranges. |
We thought it might be a baby because it is so small,

Unusual sights
Peter and I have a silly car game we call Unusual Sights in which we look for, you guessed it,
unusual sights. For instance, one day we saw this on Wellington Road:
well, last week Peter said there was an unusual sight
right here at home
when Fly jumped out of Peter's bedroom
and was walking on the roof,
barking at passersby....
no one else saw it (mimi was downstairs, and a serviceman was working on the a/c),
so we tried to recreate it.
but he didn't get out of the house.
Just looked around!
John surprised us while we were waiting....
What unusual sights have you seen lately?
Kateri's first musical
Last night Teresa and Pat brought Kateri to her first musical...
she didn't see much, as she slept through it....
but it was a wonderful show, and a wonderful time!
I got to thinking and realized (for what it's worth) that Peter's first musical,
12 years ago this month, when he was just the same age as Kateri,
was Meet Me in St. Louis, Laura's first "Big Role".
My goodness, what a lot of water under the bridge!
