Business Travel Travails

Memo: Business Travel Travails
Hero: Ken Myers
Destination: Southern California
Planned departure: Monday (today) at 4:35pm after spending the day at the office
Return: Friday

First Travail: Ken arrives at work this morning 9:20am and discovers
John's set of car keys are in his pocket
and Peter's car seat and soccer shoes are in his car

RETURN HOME!
Arrive back at work 10:30am

Second Travail: Ken arrives at the airport at 3pm
Parks car in long term parking, boards bus
Entry to airport is blocked by security guards at 3:20pm
Crowd of thousands forms quickly as news spreads of a security incident.
4:30pm said crowd is allowed to proceed to check in
Stampede ensues
Ken finds himself in line with hundreds, about 80% away from the front.

Announcement made that all flights would leave an hour later to accomodate the situation.

Third Travail:
WHEN!
Incredibly, a middle aged man with a carry on in hand, cuts across the maze by ducking under several ropes, through the crowd, to stand directly in front of Ken.
"Excuse me? .....
You need to go to the back of the line." Repeat for 5 minutes
One other traveller joins in to support Ken.
Ken threatens to call security. (NO WHERE to be seen)
Said line cutter retreats to back of line.
Surrounding crowd breaks into cheers.

Fourth Travail:
Ken makes it to front of line in half an hour. yeah! (every check-in station had an attendant)
{30 minutes prior to the flight leaving per 1 hour delay announcement. }
E-check in says "too late"
"want to try another flight on standby?"

NO THANKS!!!!

weary traveller rescedules the trip west for 8:30 am tomorrow, returns to work, reschedules meetings, and drives home in resignation resolved that today's trip was not meant to be, EVER!
