camping at Matthews Arm

We were blessed with lovely weather last Friday
and so we hooked up the camper
and headed to
Skyline Drive,

and the Matthews Arm campground in particular.

Matthews Arm is a huge campsite, but since we arrived in the late afternoon,

most of the campsites were already taken.

After driving through all the loops,

we decided to take another look at the 4 or 5 campsites that were open at the very front....

Only to discover

that the one on the right

had just gotten an occupant:

that indistinct shadow was actually a very distinct adolescent bear!

so we decided to take the campsite directly across from his.

(there just weren't that many left, honestly!)

and he wandered around

his little campsite while we were setting up,

but he never came over to introduce himself,

or ask if he could borrow some bacon,

thank heavens!

what follows

are jeanne's selfies

 with her fellow campers:

all too soon it was time

to fold up our tent

and drive away.

But there was still one more surprise

a little bear cub who was foraging by the side of the road

just north of the campground!

We are so thankful to have had a beary good time!
