the yaller cat yallered
About a week ago, we started seeing "Lost Yellow Cat" signs around the neighborhood. The notice was printed on plain white paper and we didn't think too much about it, apart from jeanne commenting that it said that the male cat had been spayed, which gave us pause....
Then, last weekend, a tall teenage boy was redistributing more notices in the mailboxes along Manassas Forge Drive. We happened to be in the front yard when he came to our house and he explained that he and his family are living in the basement of Peggy's house. They are from the Ukraine, and the missing cat had belonged to his grandfather before he died, and that the cat was also from the Ukraine.
Last night, during the football game, ken thought he heard a plaintive cry. John said that a time or two in the morning he had heard that cry too. so they went off in search and Ken spotted a yellow cat hiding furtively in the garage near the camper.
When Ken went next door and brought over the young man's mom, the cat was hiding and did not come out, and could not be found in all of the looking that followed. So our neighbor decided to just wait quietly in the garage by herself, and meanwhile John woke Peter up to help look for the cat in case he had slipped into the house and was hiding there.
Within 10 minutes, the yellow cat emerged from his hiding place, and our neighbor was in tears.
What a blessing and surprise!
